Practical knowledge of MRI pulse sequence develoment and RF coil engineering essential. Programming in languages such as C, MATLAB essential. Experience of laser optical pumping of noble gases would also be valuable The work will involve implementation of novel lung imaging techniques on 3T and 1.5T whole body MRI systems for 1H, 3He and 129Xe lung MRI. The project is funded as part of the EU Framework 7 ITN Pulmonary Imaging Network (PINET) and the post doc will be encouraged to participate in ongoing collaborations with other researchers across Europe with multiple opportunities to visit leading international laboratories and to attend taught summer schools. The lung MRI group in Sheffield is a leading group internationally in development of novel techniques with hyperpolarised gas and proton MRI.
