Area of responsibilities/description of the work
 
The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institute within the area of environmental medicine. IMM conducts world-class research within epidemiology, biostatistics, toxicology, and physiology with a focus on how environmental and lifestyle risk factors affect our health and how they interact with genetic factors in causation of disease. The Unit of Epidemiology puts strong emphasis on the development and application of epidemiological research methods. The research topics focus on environmental exposures and life style factors in relation to different diseases particularly cancer and cardiovascular disease but also diabetes.
 
The position focuses on epidemiological research on adult and childhood brain tumor etiology. The studies utilize the Swedish population and health data registers, as well as two large international case-control studies of adult and childhood brain tumors, including interview data and biological samples. The post doc is expected to analyze the available data, write papers, and supervise doctoral students. Most of the work is done with international collaboration.
 
Qualifications
 
Applicants should have a PhD degree in epidemiology awarded within the past five years, and must be fluent in English. Applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the last date for applications should be given priority.
 
Special weight will be given academic skills with a strong publication record, particularly previous experience of analyses of case-control and cohort studies.
 
Postgraduates who have yet to graduate may apply if their public defense is scheduled to take place within three months after the application deadline, in which case verification from the Dissertation Committee or equivalent body must be submitted with the application.
