Laboratory Director and Project Director Positions at Peking University
The Beijing Innovation Center for Engineering Science and Advanced Technology (BIC-ESAT) at Peking University invites applications for multiple laboratory director (principle investigator, PI) and project director (co-principle investigator, Co-PI) positions in the broad areas associated with advanced manufacturing technology, energy, and environment. Founded in 2015 with a generous support from the Municipal Government of Beijing, the BIC-ESAT focuses on the development of advanced manufacturing technology as well as energy and environmental technologies.
Candidates with interest and expertise in the following areas are encouraged to apply:
1) Advanced manufacturing and design;
2) Development and application of engineering software;
3) Energy technologies;
4) Environmental technologies.
As an independent PI, laboratory director candidates are expected to
1). Establish a research laboratory with focus on one of the aforementioned areas.
2). Take charge of teaching, research, team-building, and operational administration of the laboratory, and facilitate the internationalization process of the laboratory.
3). Improve students’ training, scientific research achievements, and academic strength of the laboratory significantly within the appointment.
4). Responsible for the talent team building. Improve the overall strength of the laboratory personnel within the appointment.
As a Co-PI, project director candidates are expected to perform research and administration work in close cooperation with the laboratory director.
The successful candidates will be hired as tenured or tenure-track faculty members of a specific college/school of Peking University, at the ranking of associate or full professor, depending on qualification. Besides the normal benefits for the faculty members at Peking University, the successful candidates will be able to receive an extra, sizeable compensation from the BIC-ESAT. The overall compensation will be highly competitive, commensurable to experience and qualification.
Qualified applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in related fields.
Candidates for laboratory director positions should have high visibility in the related fields of the innovation center and an excellent academic reputation; they are expected to have capability to communicate and coordinate as an academic and administrative leader. Experience as tenured full faculty at renowned universities or senior research scientists at internationally well-known research institutes is preferable.
Candidates for project director positions should have achievements acknowledged by peers and have a good academic reputation. Experience as associated professors at renowned universities and research scientists at internationally well-known research institutes is preferable.
The applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae with a list of publications, names and contact information of three references, and a statement of current and future research. Applicants for laboratory director positions also need to provide a statement for laboratory/group development ideas and objectives.
