A postdoctoral position is available immediately to investigate structural variation in mammalian genomes. Work will be conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Ira Hall in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia. The project will focus on understanding the cause and consequence of nonrandom structural mutation (see Egan et al, Nature Genetics, 2007), and will entail genome-wide identification of spontaneous variants using microarrays and next-generation DNA sequencing technologies, bioinformatic interpretation of resulting datasets, and experimental characterization of specific genomic regions. Candidates with a background in both experimental and computational biology are preferred, but those with impressive experience in either will be considered.
