The Department of Physiology of the University of Bern has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow in cellular cardiac electrophysiology. Research is focused on the effects of heterocellular electrical coupling between myofibroblasts and ventricular cardiomyocytes on emerging electrical properties in general and on cardiac arrhythmogenesis in particular. Studies are conducted using state of the art methodologies including patterned growth hybrid cultures of cardiomyocytes and myofibroblasts, optical recording of transmembrane voltage and fluctuations in ion concentrations, patch clamp studies, longterm extracellular recording of electrical activity and immunocytochemistry.
Qualifications: Qualifications include an M.D. or Ph.D. with knowledge in cardiac electrophysiology and preferably working experience with one or more of the above mentioned methods.
Conditions: The position starts at April 1st, 2008 (or by mutual agreement). The post is initially for 2 ½ years and is renewable by mutual agreement. Employment conditions are those of the Swiss National Science Foundation for postdoctoral fellows.
Applications: Please send your curriculum vitae, a brief summary of research experience, a short statement of your research interests and contact information for two references to:
