A 3-year Wellcome Trust Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available from

 

1st October 2009 or as soon as thereafter. You will join a group of researchers interested in the function and development of vertebrate spinal cord in the virtual Institute of Behavioural and Neural Sciences (IBANS). The work will involve investigating the roles of different types of interneuron in Xenopus tadpole swimming (A recognized experimental model system for studying the neuronal control of vertebrate locomotion). mRNAs of different light-sensitive channel rhodopsins will be microinjected into precursors of selected interneuron populations, which subsequently will be activated or inhibited “en masse” by light exposure to establish their precise roles. Experiences in electrophysiology and/or microinjection, molecular biological techniques are desirable.
