The University of Minnesota Stem Cell Institute (SCI) is seeking highly motivated Ph.D. POST DOCTORAL Associates to conduct diabetes-related research in the areas of iPS/differentiation and engineering large-scale mammalian cell cultures. The SCI is partnered with the Schulze Diabetes Institute in pioneering cell-based therapies to cure type 1 diabetes.
 
Both positions will investigate, conduct and lead research projects; participate in design, implementation, and evaluation of the research; participate in the preparation and presentation of data to study investigators, collaborators and collaborating labs; participate in the preparation of manuscripts or presentations for publication or submission to scientific meetings.
 
The iPS/differentiation recruit will be responsible for maintaining stem cell cultures, generating and isolating pancreatic cell types from stem cells. A Ph.D. in cell biology, developmental biology or related field is required. Experience of independent research with primary mammalian cell culture and genetic modification is required.
 
The engineering recruit will be responsible for generating large-scale cultures from stem cells. A Ph.D. in Chemical or Biomedical Engineering or related field, or a MS or BS degree with extensive experience with laboratory work is required. Experience with characterization of growth and differentiated functions of mammalian cells as well as genetic modification of mammalian cells is required.
