The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, has an opportunity available for a Post Doctoral Associate, located at our Medical Campus. This laboratory is under the mentorship of Dr. Damien Pearse. The individual will coordinate and perform pre-clinical studies examining cell implantation and drug delivery in both rodent and porcine models of spinal cord injury. Such studies will examine the dosing, toxicity and efficacy of these interventions as well as identify inter-species differences in their responses to injury and/or reparative therapies. Duties include but are not limited to: responsible for coordinating staff and running experiments using cell or pharmacological therapies in spinal cord or traumatic brain injured animals; perform surgeries on experimental animals and deliver pharmacological agents; independently run experiments and be able to write detailed reports of experimental results according to the GLP standard; manage and train staff members in the use of histological techniques; data analysis and preparation of reports for scientific meetings, grant progress reports, and publications.

 

Minimum qualifications include a recent Ph.D/MD in Neuroscience, Molecular and Cellular Biology and/or Neurosurgery. Experience in surgery, particularly in the area of spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury as well as cell transplantation is preferred but not required. Technical expertise in histopathology, immunochemistry and image analysis/microscopy, particularly stereology and confocal microscopy is desired. The candidate should be highly proficient in written and oral communication in English and will need to present their work often in group discussions. The candidate will be driven and ambitious and able to handle a diverse project portfolio. Successful applicants are expected to have the ability to work independently. The candidate must have at least one publication in a medline-recognized journal. Any appropriate combination of education, certifications, and/or relevant work experience will be considered.
