NIH funded Research Associate/Postdoctoral positions are available for 2-3 years to study cellular and molecular mechanisms by which signaling kinases regulate development of diet-induced dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis and insulin resistance/diabetes (Mol. Cell. Biol. 26:1307, 2006; Biochem. Pharmacol. 75:457, 2007; J. Biol. Chem. 283:231, 2008; Hepatology 49:1525, 2009). A primary focus of the work will involve detailed analyses of novel genetic changes and transcriptional modification in specific genes in high fat diet-induced obesity, hepatic steatosis, and development of insulin resistance. Role of specific signaling cascades will be evaluated using cell culture and animal models. Where applicable, the relationship of specific changes caused by inactivation of a gene on differential gene expression will also be of primary concern. Additionally, development and testing of new animal models and study of factors that influence the effects of compounds on obesity will be carried out.

Our research concerns several disciplines: Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry. Preference will be given to those who had experience in either molecular biology, biochemistry, signal transduction, or generating transgenic and knockout mouse models. The ability to think creatively, work independently, collaborate with the team, and embrace new technologies is essential. Salary is dependent on experience.

Candidates with a degree in related fields are encouraged to apply for the position. Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae and names and contact information of three references immediately to Dr. Kamal D. Mehta,M.Phil., Ph.D., Professor and Investigator, Department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, The Dorothy M. Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Columbus, Ohio 43210. Tel: 614-688-8451; Email: mehta.80@osu.edu.
