A postdoctoral research associate position in the laboratory of Dr. Elizabeth Gavis, Department of Molecular Biology, is available immediately for a highly motivated individual to conduct a screen for transcripts with localized distributions in Drosophila neurons. The screen combines a method developed in the lab for in vivo fluorescent labeling of mRNAs with well established methods for gene trapping and tissue specific gene expression. Identification of transcripts with polarized distributions will not only provide insight into regulation of neuronal morphogenesis but will also provide a data-base for bioinformatic analysis to discern cis-acting sequences and/or structural motifs that govern localized mRNA distributions.
A Ph.D. degree is required.
Experience in genetics, neurobiology, and/or fluorecence microscopy are strongly recommended.
