School of Medicine – Cancer Sciences Division

Neuroblastoma is one of the commonest malignancies of childhood. Most children present with widespread disease and despite increasingly high dose therapies, survival from metastatic disease remains poor. More than 60% of this group of children die from their tumour and new, more effective, therapies are needed to improve survival. One new group of agents that show exciting thereputic potential for this disease are immunostimulatory monoclonal antibodies (mAb), that is mAb that stimulate the immune system to generate anti-tumour immunity.

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research fellow to join an innovative project aimed at investigating a range of different immunostimulatory mAb in pre-clinical models in order to establish how they can best be used to treat neuroblastoma. In particular the project will investigate how this type of mAb can be combined with different types of peptide vaccine (e.g. long peptides) to optimise anti-neuroblastoma immune responses. The project is part of a well-established and productive therapeutic antibody research programme within the Cancer Sciences Division.

You will be enthusiastic, motivated, have research experience in standard biochemical, cell-biological or immunological techniques and hold a PhD.

The position will be full time working with a team of researchers under Dr Juliet Gray and Professor Martin Glennie in the Cancer Sciences Division and will be based at Southampton General Hospital.

The post is full-time and fixed term for 3 years.

The closing date for applications is 18 May 2010 at 12.00 noon.
