Postdoctoral Fellowships and Senior Staff Scientist Position in Neuroimaging

Section on Integrative Neuroimaging

National Institute of Mental Health, NIH

Intramural Research Program, DHHS, Bethesda, MD

The Section on Integrative Neuroimaging (under the direction of Dr. Karen Berman) at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Intramural Research Program, offers several openings for clinical and postdoctoral fellows and a Senior Staff Scientist. The 300 acre campus of the NIH Intramural Research Program, near Washington D.C., houses state-of-the-art neuroimaging facilities (MRI, PET and MEG) dedicated to research and is one of the premier research sites in the world. The strong scientific environment and superb resources make this a unique opportunity for outstanding scientists.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team using multimodal neuroimaging to map genetic and neurochemical mechanisms associated with normal higher cognitive function as well as dysfunction in neuropsychiatric illnesses such as schizophrenia, those with genetic sources of behavioral dysfunction such as Williams syndrome, and other conditions such as normal aging. We also have a strong neurodevelopmental imaging component.

Possible research areas include 1) neurofunctional bases of neuropsychiatric illnesses, especially schizophrenia, 2) neurodevelopmental neuroimaging, 3) neurochemical underpinnings of higher cognitive function and dysfunction, and 4) imaging genetics.

The two-to-five year postdoctoral and clinical fellow positions are open to 1) recent Ph.D.‘s in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, neuropharmacology, or other applicable discipline and 2) M.D.’s with training in psychiatry, neurology, nuclear medicine, radiology or other relevant field. Familiarity with computational and statistical methods for neuroimaging confers an advantage but is not absolutely required.

The Senior Staff Scientist position requires, at a minimum, doctoral degree, post-doctoral training, strong publication record, and demonstrated expertise in analysis and synthesis of neuroimaging data. In addition to collaborative work within the team, there is opportunity for outstanding candidates to develop their own projects within the Section.
