The molecular mechanisms of structural conversion in amyloid disease

Full-time, Fixed term for five years

You are invited to join a Wellcome Trust-funded dynamic interdisciplinary team focusing on using a combination of biophysical and biochemical methods to investigate the mechanisms of protein aggregation into amyloid fibrils in vitro and the effects of aggregated species on cellular homeostasis.

The project is funded jointly between the laboratories of Professors Sheena Radford, Professor Steve Homans and Dr Eric Hewitt within the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology at the University of Leeds. The project will focus on the aggregation of beta-2-microglobulin into amyloid fibrils which is associated with the disorder dialysis related amyloidosis.

You should have a PhD in biochemistry, biophysics or a related area. You should have substantial practical experience of biophysical analysis of protein structure and assembly using fluorescence, FRET, FCS, cross-linking and/or other spectroscopic methods.

University Grade 7 (£29,972 – £35,788 p.a.).

Informal enquiries to Prof Sheena E Radford, email s.e.radford@leeds.ac.uk.
