University of Leeds Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology
Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Protein-Protein Interactions (Full-time)
A postdoctoral research fellow is sought to join an interdisciplinary team based in the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology to study the protein-protein assembly mechanisms in the formation of pili associated with pathogenic bacteria. You will work closely with a second postdoctoral fellow in crystallography funded on this joint project with Professor Gabriel Waksman (Birkbeck College, London). The person appointed in Leeds will principally use non-covalent mass spectrometry, together with other biophysical methods, kinetic and thermodynamic analysis to determine the mechanism of subunit discrimination in pilus formation and the role of the membrane-bound usher protein in facilitating assembly.
You will need a PhD in biochemistry, chemistry or a related discipline, with experience in biophysical measurements of protein assembly including non-covalent mass spectrometry. The position is available immediately and the appointment will be for three years.
Information about the activities of the supervisors and their groups can be found at http://www.astbury.leeds.ac.uk University Grade 7 (£27,466 – £32,796 p.a.) It is likely that an appointment will be made at or below £28,289 p.a. since there are funding limitations which dictate the level at which the appointment can start
