A postdoctoral position funded by Science Foundation Ireland is available to study the role of Toll-like receptor 2 and 4 and the inflammatory caspase, caspase-1, in the pathogenesis of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are innate immune receptors that are activated by pathogens and endogenous ligands, instigating proinflammatory cytokine production including IL-1beta via caspase-1. Inappropriate activation of TLRs and caspase-1 may give rise to chronic inflammatory disease including Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The current project will aim to characterise the molecular mechanisms involved in activating the caspase-1 signalling complexes called ‘inflammasomes’ through endogenous and exogenous TLR2/4 ligands.
Applications are sought from highly motivated committed individuals with a PhD in cell biology, biochemistry, immunology or a related discipline. A strong research background in cell signalling and/or molecular immunology would be advantageous. Expertise in the area of proteomic analysis (2D gel electrophoresis, DIGE, LC-MS) would be advantageous.
Review of applications will begin immediately and an expected start date not later than July 2008 is envisaged. Applicants should submit their CV along with the names and contact details of two referees, preferably via email to sinead.miggin@nuim.ie
