CoEBio3 is an inter-University, industry supported, research centre undertaking state-of-the-art research into the development of novel biocatalytic processes for industry. CoEBio3 is located at The University of Manchester.
As part of a major new collaboration with an industry partner we will initiate a project with the ultimate aim of developing an integrated bioprocess for the conversion of biomass to fuel components. In order to achieve this objective it will be necessary to develop robust biocatalysts for a range of different bioconversions. Candidate enzymes (and genes) have been identified which will need to be isolated, expressed and examined for their ability to carry out the target bioconversion. In many cases it may be necessary to optimise these biocatalysts such that they possess the appropriate characteristics for applications in industrial bioprocesses. We shall also undertake an intensive and wide-ranging screening programme to identify suitable micro-organisms which are able to produce high levels of bio-fuel precursor molecules.
Four individuals are required for four different but related research areas associated with the project description above. The project will suit highly qualified research scientists who are both technically strong and also have a desire to carry out research in a commercially important project area.
