University of Heidelberg National Genome Research Network (NGFN) Postdoctoral position
Within the Department of Cardiovascular Physiology of Heidelberg University School of Medicine a position (German remuneration scheme TV-L E13) funded by the Federal Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF) is available from 1 May 2008 for a
Postdoctoral research fellow (m/f).
The position will be funded for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.
The successful candidate should enjoy interactive teamwork in the field of cardiovascular biology and have a qualified PhD or equivalent degree in the life sciences, preferably biochemistry, (human) biology, pharmacy or veterinary medicine. In-depth knowledge of modern cell and molecular biology methods is a must as well a good command of the English language.
His/her research activities within the funded NGFN-Transfer project “Heart Failure Therapy” will focus on the in vitro validation of the biological activity of decoy oligodeoxynucleotides, i.e. nucleic acid-based drugs directed against transcription factors which have been shown to play a pivotal role in the altered gene expression during myocardial failure. Therefore, experiences in the handling of human or mouse cardiac myocytes and fibroblasts would be an advantage. The successful applicant will join a team of three scientists, one PhD student and one technician at the University of Heidelberg who work closely with AVONTEC GmbH, a German biopharmaceutical company addressing large-market indication areas with product candidates derived from its unique and powerful decoy oligodeoxynucleotide platform technology.
