The Chair for Applied Physical Chemistry at the University of Heidelberg offers a Post-Doc position. We are seeking a chemist to synthesize and physically characterize novel polymeric nanostructures with exact three-dimensional control. These polymeric nanostructures will be prepared by electron beam nanolithography in combination with surface-initiated polymerization. We will investigate both surface-bound polymeric nanostructures as well as free-standing polymeric nanomembranes in a thickness range from 2 – 20 nm. We will explore mechanical and physical properties of these novel nanostructures and the limits of materials parameters that can be synthetically controlled. The nanostructures can be applied as highly sensitive sensors, or as ultrathin “stealth” substrates for high resolution transmission electron microscopy. The position is funded from DFG and will be for one year initially, with a possible extension to two years. Salary will be paid according to the German public collective labor agreement (level E13, appr. € 2.100 per month after taxes) and includes social security and health insurance. Some experience in surface or polymer science and related physical techniques (XPS, AFM, electron microscopy) or in synthetic chemistry is required. Please send applications to Dr. Wolfgang Eck, w-eck@uni-hd.de, or call 49-6221-545378.
