A Postdoctoral Research Associateship is available in the Department of Molecular Neuroscience to study polglutamine expansion diseases. The appointee will investigate the effect of sequence interruptions within the repeat on gene properties and products, and study the number and position of polyglutamine residues and how they influence pathology. S/he will join a lively research group with an excellent research record in genetic, molecular and cellular processes which underlie a variety of neurological diseases and a special interest in dominant ataxias and polyglutamine disorders (see http://www.ion.ucl.ac.uk/research/mol_neurosci/molneuro-publications.html).
 
The work is part of an integrated interdisciplinary initiative between the Institute of Neurology and the National Institute for Medical Research.
 
Applicants should hold or be close to obtaining a PhD in Cellular/Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or related subjects; experience in molecular genetics and gene mapping essential, and in RNA techniques and protein biochemistry advantageous. The post is available immediately and is funded for three years. Starting salary £30,115 pa inclusive on UCL Grade 7, superannuable.
