挪威卑尔根计算科学中心招聘博士后

Several positions are available at Unifob AS, Bergen Center for Computational Sciences (BCCS) in connection with the project “eSysbio – an e-science environment for systems biology” (see below for position details). The eSysBio-project is funded by the Research Council of Norway, through the eVITA e-science program. The project will run from 2007-2012 and will involve a team of researchers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD-students, programmers, and master students.

The main aim of the project is to develop a collaborative virtual workspace for entering, analysing and accessing systems biology data. Users of the system will be researchers from multiple disciplines, such as molecular biology/biomedicine, statistics and mathematics. The workspace will be implemented using a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), where Web services and semantic technologies will play key roles. The project is divided into three work packages: 1) Development of the collaborative virtual workspace; 2) Resource integration (SOA/Web services/workflows) and semantic technology; and 3) User interface and client software integration.

BCCS has approximately 50 employees counting more than 17 different nationalities. The center operates the high performance computing facilities of the University of Bergen, and has units within high-performance computing (Parallab), bioinformatics (CBU), and mathematics (CMU), all involved in the eSysbio project.

Postdoctoral researcher (1-2 positions):

The candidate must hold a PhD or equivalent. Ideally the candidate has strong theoretical and practical background/experience with software engineering and data modeling as well as enthusiasm for use of emerging technologies and for inter-disciplinary research efforts. Interest and/or experience in mathematical modelling and bioinformatics is a plus.

Research activities can include integration of bioinformatics data, data modelling and data analysis. The candidate’s PhD should be in Computer Science though we are also interested in candidates with doctoral degrees in other fields (e.g., mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology) if they have extensive experience and proven abilities in programming and software engineering.

We seek candidates interested in taking part in student and project supervision.

We expect enthusiasm and independence as well as the ability to work in a team environment. Good knowledge of English is required. Women in particular are invited to apply.

Please send the following documents to HR Consultant Monika Voit (monika.voit@bccs.uib.no) with cc to Senior Scientist Dr Jeremy Cook (jeremy.cook@bccs.uib.no):

cover letter;

detailed CV (max. 3 pages);

certified copies of certificates and diplomas;

1 page description of your research interests;

contact information of two references.

Applications which do not include all required documents will not be considered. It is assumed that we have the candidate’s permission to contact the references named in the application.

The position remains open until a successful candidate is found. Evaluation of applicants will commence on October 6th 2008.
