Post Doctoral Research Fellow/Assistant
£29,704 – £43,622, Ref: 5157
Based in Milton Keynes, UK
Temporary contract for 4 years (ends 31 March 2013)
Three extended post-doctoral research positions are available in PSSRI, to tackle current problems in cosmochemistry/planetary science utilising the latest analytical instrumentation. The posts available are:
Investigating the nature of cometary material
Simulating early solar system processes
Developing NanoSIMS for cosmochemistry and planetary science
PSSRI is a large research Institute bring together leading elements of analytical cosmochemistry, space exploration and experimental simulation. The Institute is equipped with a range of front line analytical and experimental instrumentation to tackle the projects – including NanoSIMS, isotope mass spectrometers, FIB-SEM, nano-Raman microprobe and access to new electron microprobe, SEM and TEM and necessary support facilities and a range of hypervelocity and environmental simulation chambers. We welcome applications from candidates who are (or will be) qualified at doctoral level and who have appropriate expertise in the relevant research areas.
NanoSIMS Cosmochemistry and Planetary Geosciences
To operate our NanoSIMS50L and develop the capability for high spatial resolution isotopic and elemental mapping and high precision isotopic analyses in cosmochemistry and planetary geosciences. You will be responsible for day-to-day operation, training others to use the instrument and develop new protocols and projects. For more details see below or contact Ian Franchi (i.a.franchi@open.ac.uk).
