Description:
A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Department of Wood Biotechnology at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. The research will be conducted in the context of an Academy/Industry research contract. The research program comprises the characterization of key genes involved in plant cell wall metabolism – particularly biosynthesis – including expression in planta and in heterologous systems (yeast, bacterial systems), purification and biochemical characterization of recombinant enzymes. The work will also involve the metabolic engineering of plant cell walls and microbial systems as well as analyses of plant cell walls and polysaccharides synthesized in vitro. Duties will be to design and perform experiments, record data and keep detailed and accurate records, interpret and report results, communicate effectively, work cooperatively with other laboratory personnel.
Requirements:
The selected candidate must hold a PhD degree in Plant Biochemistry or Molecular Biology and have extensive experience in molecular approaches for the characterization of genes through expression in plants and heterologous systems. Expertise in cell wall carbohydrate isolation, fractionation and structural analysis is also highly desirable, but not an absolute requirement since these approaches can be acquired by training in the host laboratory.
Candidates must be highly motivated, able to work independently while having excellent qualities to interact with other scientists and communicate effectively. Candidates must also have demonstrated research accomplishments and excellent communication skills in oral and written English.
Form of application: cover letter with motivation, CV with publication list, technical skills to be sent by e-mail to bulone@kth.se. In addition the candidates are asked to arrange for 2 reference letters, preferentially from their previous supervisors, to be sent independently from their main application to the address specified below.
