The Earth Science Department of BSC (ES-BSC) offers a Post-Doctoral Position in the area of Earth System Modelling. The successful candidate will strongly contribute to the climate research line of ES-BSC. He/She will work in an international research environment and will have access to MareNostrum computational resources for the proposed research.
The candidate will work on the implementation of EC-Earth Earth System Modelling framework at high resolution in the MareNostrum supercomputer. Contribution to the AR5 simulations will be on of the main objectives of the work in strong collaboration with EC-Earth community.
The candidate will be involved in the FP7 Is-ENES project, “Infrastructure for the European Network for Earth System Modelling”. He/She will collaborate in porting, testing and analysing tasks of different European ESM in next generation HPC facilities, focusing in the MareNostrum infrastructure.
The aim of this position is to identify processes that are relevant for the seasonal-to-interannual climate variability and long-term memory in the climate system ultimately affecting the Mediterranean area, and particularly in key regions like the adjacent Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The research will be based on long-term simulations with coupled atmosphere-ocean general circulation models and observations.
Conditions:
The position is offered for four years (renewable each year)
Expected to start in next year 2009.
- Payment will be in accordance with Spanish post-doctoral fellowships, including social security benefits
Requirements:
Have a PhD Degree in atmospheric sciences, climatology, oceanography or related disciplines
Excellent computing skills (FORTRAN, C, LINUX/UNIX)
Proven experience with numerical geophysical models and codes
Previous experience in model development and application in parallel computing environments will be appreciated
- High level in English is required
