HENRY WELLCOME BUILDING OF MOLECULAR PHYSIOLOGY
University of Oxford
Hypoxia Biology Research Group
Post-Doctoral Research Scientist (up to three years post doctoral experience)
£28,839 – £35,469 pa
The post will be for three years in the first instance
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research scientist to work in the laboratory of Professor Peter Ratcliffe FRS to study the cellular oxygen-sensing enzyme, FIH, and in particular, the role of FIH-mediated asparaginyl hydroxylation in hypoxia signaling. The project follows evidence that FIH has an extensive range of hydroxylation targets in the mammalian proteome that may direct cellular adaptation to hypoxia and be important in a wide range of biomedical contexts including cancer and cardiovascular disease. More information on the Group’s research interests and recent publications can be obtained from http://www.well.ox.ac.uk/ratcliffe/
The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary and highly interactive environment. Enthusiasm for lab work and an ability to work as part of a team are essential requirements for the position. The post will particularly suit candidates with an interest in the field of hypoxia biology, protein chemistry and proteomics. The applicant must have a PhD in a relevant discipline, ideally with a biochemical emphasis. Previous experience in protein expression/ purification, molecular and cell biology are essential and prior knowledge of mass spectrometry would be beneficial.
