Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Division of Infection and Immunity at UCL. The post is funded by a five-year Medical Research Council Career Development Grant awarded to Dr Clare Jolly to investigate the role of the secretory pathway in human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) egress from T cells.
Previous work has demonstrated HIV-1 can spread between susceptible T cells across a “virological synapse” (VS) (Jolly et al., 2004 Journal of Experimental Medicine 199: 283-93) and there is evidence that HIV-1 protein trafficking and viral dissemination may involve elements of cellular secretory pathways (Jolly and Sattentau, 2007 Trends in Immunology 28: 474-81). The successful candidate will join a laboratory that aims to (A) characterise how CD4 T cells traffic cellular and viral proteins via secretory pathways, (B) identify cellular and viral factors controlling HIV-1 egress from CD4 T cells and© evaluate the contribution of host cellular factors to viral dissemination between CD4 T cells and strategies of inhibition.
Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject, a record of peer-reviewed publication, and experience in cell culture and either molecular virology or cell biology. Applications from highly motivated recent PhD graduates are particularly encouraged. Funding is available until the end 2013.
Appointment will be on the Grade 7 scale (£28,839 – £35,469 per annum) with a starting salary up to £29,704 plus London Allowance of £2,781 per annum.
