Postdoctoral Researcher in Mechanobiology
Grade: 07S
Salary: £28,839 – £35,469 per annum
A postdoctoral research position is available immediately at the Mechanobiology Group, Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford to study tendon mechanobiology and repair following injury or pathology. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team drawn from the Botnar Research Centre, the Oxford Institute of Biomedical Engineering and the John Radcliffe Hospital to work at the forefront of strategically important musculoskeletal research.
The successful candidate will use live tissue imaging to investigate the synergetic mechanisms by which biological and mechanical stimuli enhance the repair of both tendon matrix itself and its mechanoregulatory network of cells. This will lead to new approaches to therapies aimed at protecting and regenerating tendon.
It is essential that candidates have: a PhD in the biological sciences or in biomedical engineering; experience in standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques; experience of live cell and tissue confocal microscopy; significant cell and tissue culture experience. Applicants should also have excellent communication skills in both written and verbal English and strong computing skills (including Microsoft Office). Experience in mechanical characterization of tissue or musculoskeletal mechanobiology and enthusiasm for cross-disciplinary work and interaction would be an advantage.
