We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Statistical Geneticist (Grade I) at the MRC Centre for Causal Analyses in Translational Epidemiology (CAiTE) within the Department of Social Medicine.

Your primary responsibility will be to identify common genetic variants underlying risk of Ankylosing Spondylitis (a form of auto-immune arthritis) through the techniques of (i) genome-wide association and (ii) fine mapping of the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC). You will also have the opportunity to be involved in several other genome-wide association studies going on within the centre including scans of prostate cancer, extreme obesity and the many thousands of phenotypes contained within the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and their Children (ALSPAC).

You should have a strong background in statistics as well as experience in one of the major statistical packages (e.g. R, STATA, SPSS). Experience in computer programming, analysis of genetic data, and proficiency with the UNIX/LINUX operating system would also be advantageous. We are looking for a well-trained and motivated scientist who is able to work independently and contribute conceptually to our overall research programme. Good organisational and communication skills are essential. This appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension.
