With almost 400 staff, up to 50 students and visiting scientists and an annual budget of 30 million, the BBSRC-sponsored Institute for Animal Health is the largest establishment in the UK undertaking high quality research into infectious diseases of livestock.
 
A post-doctoral scientist with practical experience of molecular biology is required to work on foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in a new BBSRC-funded research project within the Molecular Characterisation and Diagnostics Group at Pirbright. The research is aimed at identifying the epitopes present on the surface of FMD virus which contribute to FMD vaccine induced protection. The project also involves animal studies evaluating the efficacy of recombinant FMD vaccines.
 
The successful candidate should be enthusiastic, innovative and able to foster collaborative links with other key researchers in the field.
 
You will hold a PhD in Molecular Biology, Virology or a related field. Prior experience in the growth and characterisation of viruses as well as the manipulation of plasmids is highly desirable. You will have the ability to work inside a containment laboratory to strict protocols be self-motivated, work collaboratively and communicate effectively.
