Job Positions Open at Prof. Peng CUI Research Team, Chinese Academy of Sciences
Prof. Peng CUI Research Team, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is seeking one or two applications for Postdoctoral Researcher and International Excellent Young Scientists (Overseas).
The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has extremely strong structural uplift, extremely complex topography, and extremely variable climate. Many natural hazards such as earthquakes, mudslides, avalanches, landslides, glacial lake outbursts, mountain floods, snow disasters, droughts, frost heaves, and thawing, and disaster chains frequently occur in this region. The issues of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in geological environment and natural hazards are critical. Prof. Peng CUI is leading his research team to undertake the Mission 9, Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research Program (STEP) (Grant No.2019QZKK0906) to adopted traditional techniques such as ground surveys and high-tech methods such as remote sensing, UAV, and LiDAR, combined with necessary monitoring, to conduct research on the spatial distribution of mountain disasters under the influence of internal and external dynamics on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The study will reveal its disaster-fostering background and trigger mechanism, realize the systematic evaluation and trend prediction of different disasters and geological environments in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and provide a scientific basis for the strategic planning and development in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The successful candidate will be part of the research team and expected to conduct mountain hazards research in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Prof. Cui, academician (member) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been long engaged in geo-hazards researches with a focus on debris flow, landslide, and dammed lake, as well as in water and soil conservation studies. He has led over 30 major national projects. He has made outstanding achievements in hazard formation and movement mechanism, fostering condition, risk assessment, monitoring and early warning. He proposed a multi-scale disaster risk assessment method, built a simulation platform for the entire disaster process, and created disaster process monitoring and refined risk early warning technology. In addition, he developed disaster reduction models and key technologies for risk prevention and mitigation in mountainous towns, roads, and scenic spots, to form comprehensive disaster reduction technologies.
