The Research Project: Statistical bioinformatics research on Molecular Phenotyping to Accelerate Genomic Epidemiology (MolPAGE).

Applications for the fixed term one year’s duration post of Postdoctoral Research Assistant funded by the EU are invited from researchers interested in developing statistical methodology for integrative genomic epidemiology applied to the MolPAGE project’s rich and unique data collection.

The MolPAGE consortium (see www.molpage.org) focuses a broad spectrum of molecular phenotyping platforms (including: genome-wide SNP genotyping data; epigenetic profiling; gene expression microarrays; proteomics and; metabonomic data) on shared (common) sets of biological samples – some from twins, some from cases and controls for metabolic disease; around 400 samples (individual visits) in total each typed on four or more platforms. These parallel, multiplatform data offer an unprecedented opportunity for statistical research geared towards feature extraction, biomarker discovery and integrative statistical genomics on the same biological samples.

Candidates will ideally have research experience in statistical modelling and knowledge of one or more molecular phenotyping platforms; and be able to demonstrate the potential to work effectively with large data sets. The post-holder will work closely alongside two other Postdoctoral fellows currently working in the statistics department on the project, as well as with colleagues in statistical genetics and experimental sciences at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics. Professor Peter Donnelly FRS and Professor Bernard Silverman FRS are also contributing statistical expertise to this collaborative effort. Early on in the post the Principal Investigator, Professor Chris Holmes, would hope to apply for funds to extend the duration of the project.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Professor Chris Holmes: cholmes@stats.ox.ac.uk
