Working with Professor Steve Halford FRS, you will study the nature of long range communications between distant DNA sites and the protein-protein interactions that mediate these communications. These fundamental processes will be studied by using as test systems the restriction enzymes that cut DNA only after binding two recognition sites. Your project forms part of a five-year programme that continues until August 2011. You will have, or will soon have, a PhD in Biochemistry or a similar subject. You should be interested in DNA-protein interactions, and preferably have experience in protein interactions with nucleic acids or with other ligands. The work involves a range of techniques, from molecular biology to biophysics, but can be adapted to accommodate your own particular strengths and experiences within these disciplines.
If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a permanent contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research experience. Further information can be found at www.bristol.ac.uk/personnel/ftc/.>
The research in Steve Halford’s laboratory is covered in detail at: http://www.bch.bris.ac.uk/staff/halford/halford.html
Interviews are anticipated to take place in the second half of April.
