美国加州大学伯克利分校招聘博士后
The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California at Berkeley has an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral position, starting from July 2008 or shortly after. The position is in the laboratory of Assistant Professor Lin He, who studies the functions of small RNAs in cancer biology. The He Lab works on novel non-coding RNAs that play essential roles in development and disease. Particular efforts are focused on the microRNA functions during tumor initiation and tumor maintenance. microRNAs encode a novel class of small, regulatory, non protein-coding RNAs. These small RNAs regulate key cellular processes that are frequently disrupted during malignant transformation. The He lab is among the first to provide functional evidence that links the non-coding RNAs with cancer development. Future studies will be carried out to characterize the potential impacts of these small RNAs during tumorigenesis, and to elucidate the underlying molecular basis.

Two recent publications from Dr. Lin He are listed below.
A microRNA component of the p53 tumour suppressor network. He et. al. 2007. Nature 447(7148): 1130-4.
A microRNA polycistron as a potential human oncogene (2005). He et. al. 2005. Nature 435(7043):828-33.

The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with the Principal Investigator to functionally characterize novel microRNAs in the cancer pathways using animal tumor models, transgenesis and KO studies, and cell culture studies. This position seeks a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in cancer biology and mouse genetics. Successful candidate should have a recent Ph.D. or M.D. degree, with strong expertise in one or more of the following areas: genetics, cell and molecular biology, cancer biology/genetics and biochemistry. Prior experience with developing/using mouse models is a plus. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to have strong work ethic, excellent organizational and communication skills, and critical thinking abilities.

The University of California, Berkeley, is the preeminent public university in the country, located at the bay area, a short distance away from San Francisco. The Life Sciences Addition building, where the postdoctoral position will be located, is one of the primary loci of the biomedical research on the Berkeley campus.

For those interested, please send a CV, statement of research interests, and name & contact details of three referees to Dr. Lin He at glinhe@gmail.com.
