“Determining the function of Small-Cysteine Rich (SCR) peptides during early seed development”
This project aims to dissect the role of a particular class of small cysteine-rich proteins during seed development, and assess their mode of action and overall impact on seed growth regulation. This will be achieved by performing a range of biochemical (Yeast two-hybrid screen, immunoprecipitation and MS/MS peptide analysis), molecular (qRT-PCR and in situ hybridisation) and cell biology (histology, confocal microscopy and Immunogold-TEM) techniques to characterise lines that miss-regulate the expression of these peptides. Expected project outcomes will provide novel insight into the role that SCRs play in the regulation of plant seed development.
