英国布里斯托尔大学化学院招聘博士后
Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Synthetic Supramolecular Chemistry (reference 13999)

A position is available in the group of Professor A P Davis, School of Chemistry, on the EPSRC-funded project: “Synthetic Anion Carriers for Biomedical Applications”. Anion transport across membranes is a key biological process, vital for the health of cells and organisms. Dysfunctional anion transport (usually due to faulty anion channels) is the root cause of several genetic diseases, the most common being cystic fibrosis. Molecules which promote chloride transport across membranes could serve as treatments for these diseases, and would certainly be useful tools for research. We have developed a family of powerful anion receptors which show good activity as chloride transporters. In this new project we aim to understand and optimise the system, and to test the transporters in natural membranes and cells, with a view to developing therapeutic applications.

The project is a collaboration between the groups of Professor Davis and Dr D N Sheppard of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. As part of the project team, we seek a chemist who will assist in the design of new transporters, synthesize the promising candidates, and perform physical-organic measurements on them including testing for anion transport in vesicle membranes. You will probably have a background in organic synthesis, bioorganic chemistry or supramolecular chemistry, with the ability and inclination to extend your interests into the other areas. Experience in anion recognition or membrane transport would be advantageous. You must be able to work closely with other members of the team, especially a membrane chemist/biophysicist who will collaborate on testing. The position is available for three years, subject to satisfactory progress. The starting date is negotiable, but must be no later than 31 October 2008.

If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a permanent contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research experience. Further information can be found at http://www.bristol.ac.uk/personnel/ftc/
