英国伦敦大学学院招聘博士后

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Research Associate in the Division of Infection and Immunity at UCL. The post, is funded by a Medical Research Council award to Professor Greg Towers of UCL and Dr Neil Berry of the National Institute of Biological Standards and Controls (NIBSC), and involves investigation of the molecular details of vaccination by live attenuated SIV.

Vaccination with live SIV, attenuated by nef mutation, effectively protects against homologous and heterologous challenge. We hypothesise that induction of innate immune antiviral pathways in specific tissues and cells underlies this protection and propose to identify correlates of protection by measuring gene expression changes using DNA microarrays and deep sequencing. The successful candidate will join a team that are interested in the identification and characterisation of cellular factors and pathways that impact on the ability of viruses to replicate. Recent work has considered TRIM5 and cyclophilins and their role in retroviral replication. We also study influenza and herpes viruses, characterising factors that impact on their replication, particularly tetherin and TRIM19 (PML). We also aim to discover factors exploited by viruses that can be targets for antiviral drug development and to use viruses to illuminate fundamental cellular processes.

Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject a proven track record of high impact publication and experience of cell culture and molecular virology techniques. Funding is available until the end of 2011. Appointment will be on the Grade 7 scale (£28,839 – £35,469) with a starting salary up to £30,594 plus London Weighting of £2,781.

Informal enquiries about the post should be directed to Professor Greg Towers – g.towers@ucl.ac.uk.
