NATURE OF WORK: This position is offered through the (Medicine) Division of Medical Oncology within a cancer research area located in Aurora, Colorado. The position’s primary duties are to conduct research and is not involved in the instructional program. The position is not eligible for tenure, an employee in this at-will position can be terminated at any time without notice and severance pay may not be provided.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The position is a post-doctoral fellow position and we are looking for a talented, energetic, highly motivated individual to be responsible for the research projects in the areas of developing novel statistical algorithms and tools for analyzing high dimensional datasets generated by the Developmental Therapeutics Laboratory in the Division of Medical Oncology, University of Colorado Denver. The final candidate will be jointly supervised by Dr. S. Gail Eckhardt and Dr. Aik Choon Tan, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with cutting-edge oncology research groups at the University of Colorado Cancer Center and with biostatisticians at the newly established University of Colorado School of Public Health.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS: The position requires 100% effort working within the secured research areas. Note: Occasional working in the evening or working on weekends may be required and reviewed on a project-by-project basis within the research areas.
 
Minimum Qualifications: The applicants should have a PhD or equivalent Doctorate (e.g., ScD, MD, MD/PhD, D.V.M.) degree in computational biology or a related discipline (computer science, statistics, biology, physics, and mathematics). Expertise with strong computer programming (perl/python, C/C++, Java, Matlab/R), very familiar with Unix/Mac/Windows and analytical skills are required.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Prior successful experience working with developing novel statistical algorithms and tools for analyzing high dimensional datasets. The position involves strong communications skills and thorough knowledge of computer programs including Internet and e-mail capabilities, and demonstrated experience in computer programming.
 
Preferred Qualifications: Excellent organizational and communication skills, and ability to work both collaboratively and independently and effectively are essential preferred qualifications. Experience in microarray gene expression analysis (as evidenced by publications in peer-viewed journals) is a significant plus. Ability to handle and process detail-oriented documentation and meet designated research deadlines. Must be team-oriented, flexible, and the final candidate will be motivated, reliable and willing to learn new and applicable research techniques.
