A postdoctoral position is available to study the role of the neuroendocrine axis in female reproduction and female reproductive aging. Our lab is primarily interested in understanding neurochemical changes and neuroendocrine disruptions that mitigate the onset of female reproductive senescence. We use an aging rodent model to study the effect of age on hypothalamic and pituitary function in the presence and absence of gonadal steroids. This project combines stereotaxic surgery, microdialysis, biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, HPLC, in situ hybridization, and molecular and cellular approaches. Our studies have revealed a role for insulin-like growth factor\–1, glutamate, GABA, and kisspeptin in the development of age-related reproductive failure.
A Ph.D. or M.D. degree is required. Experience with animal models, rodent surgery, immunocytochemistry, molecular and immunological techniques are needed. Experience with knock-out/transgenic mice models and laser capture are a great plus but not necessary.
