美国克利夫兰医学中心Lerner研究所招聘博士后

A postdoctoral position is immediately available in Dr. Haifeng Yang’s lab at the Department of Cancer Biology of the Lerner Research Institute at the Cleveland Clinic. The focuses of the lab are: 1) Identifying novel mechanisms of how pVHL, a major tumor suppressor in kidney cancer, inhibits tumor formation (for reference, please see Yang, et al., Cell Growth Differ. 2001 Sep;12(9):447-55; Ivan et al., Science. 2001 Apr 20;292(5516):464-8; Min et al., Science. 2002 Jun 7;296(5574):1886-9; Yang et al., Methods Enzymol. 2004;381:320-35; Yang et al., Mol Cell. 2007 Oct 12;28(1):15-27); 2) Elucidating how oncological and other pathological changes promote angiogenesis through inhibiting VHL-EGLN pathway to enhance HIFα stability or activity; 3) Determining how kidney cancer treated with anti-angiogenesis drugs develop drug resistance through analyzing tumor samples before and after treatment; 4). Investigate which HIFα inducible gene could serve as drug target in kidney cancer therapy in addition to VEGFR and PDGFR.

The works present excellent learning opportunities since they involve molecular biology, protein biochemistry, small hairpin RNA for gene silencing, orthotopic tumor model (grow tumor at the kidneys of nude mice) and in vivo imaging (quantitatively monitor tumor growth in mice over time), and extensive interactions with physicians at the Taussig Cancer Center and the the Pathology Department of the Cleveland Clinic. The projects offer great chances of fundamental discoveries and trainings suitable for both academia and pharmaceutical / biotech companies.

The Cleveland Clinic has been constantly ranked among the top 4 Best Hospital in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. Lerner Research Institute is one of the top 10 NIH funded Research Institutes in the U.S. (Total Research Funding: 239 Million in 2007). Cleveland has many excellent Cultural, Sports and Natural attractions, with affordable living costs. The applicant is expected to have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent, a strong desire to make a difference, well trained in molecular biology techniques and have a basic understanding of cancer research.

If interested, please send a copy of your resume and arrange to have three recommendation letters with your name in the title sent to: hfyang08@gmail.com
