Mechanism and function of mRNA cap methylation in oncogenesis

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to investigate the role of mRNA cap methylation in oncogenesis (see Cole and Cowling, 2008, Nature Reviews MCB 9, 810-815) with Victoria Cowling (http://www.victoriacowling.com/index.html) at the College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee (http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/aboutus). The postdoc will investigate how mRNA cap methylation and translation is regulated by growth factors, oncogenes and tumour suppressors. In addition, the postdoc will investigate the biological response to modulation of mRNA cap methylation. The project will be approached using biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology in a variety of model systems.

This position is funded by the MRC for two years in the first instance and is available from July 2009.

Candidates must have a PhD in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or a related field. Previous experience with biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology would be an advantage.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Victoria Cowling, e-mail: v.h.cowling@dundee.ac.uk (Applications sent to this address will not be considered).

Applications in the form of a CV and covering letter, including the names and addresses of 3 referees, should be sent to HR-LifeSciences@dundee.ac.uk quoting LS/2526/NB. Alternatively, please send 2 hard copies of your CV and covering letter to Human Resources, College of Life Sciences, MSI/WTB/JBC Complex, University of Dundee, DD1 5EH.

Applicants will only be contacted if invited for interview.

Closing Date: 30 January 2009

The University of Dundee is committed to equal opportunities and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
