A postdoctoral position is available immediately in a research group applying unnatural amino acid mutagenesis, structural biology and electrophysiology to the study of ion channel structure and function. Novel methods for the semi-synthesis of membrane protein will be applied to the study of potassium-selective channels and other medically relevant membrane proteins, (Valiyaveetil, F. I. et. al. Science, 2006, 314, 1004-7, Valiyaveetil, F. I. et. al. J. Am. Chem. Soc., 2006, 128, 11591-9). The laboratory provides the opportunity to gain experience in unnatural amino acid mutagenesis and protein semi-synthesis. A Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics or a related discipline is required. Practical experience with structural biology, electrophysiology or protein biochemistry is desired but not essential.
