Molecular mechanisms of prostate cancer and androgen receptor function
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nima Sharifi at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
The central focus of this laboratory program is on molecular mechanisms of gain-of-function of the androgen receptor in advanced prostate cancer. Specific goals of this program are:
1) Elucidation of mechanisms of androgen receptor gain-of-function in prostate cancer that is resistant to hormonal therapy
2) Devising novel methods of inhibiting androgen receptor transcription
The philosophy of this laboratory program is that a multidisciplinary approach using molecular biology, pharmacology and chemistry is required to make gains in clinical oncology. Accordingly, the laboratory is in search of a postdoctoral fellow who can be focused on the issues in question, yet is able to communicate effectively with colleagues and collaborators. Candidates must have an M.D. and/or a Ph.D. degree. Candidates with experience in nuclear receptors or mechanisms of transcription are strongly preferred.
