Description: Seeking postdoctoral research associate to investigate biological systems and functional materials with optical microscopy. Specific research areas will include one or more of the following: imaging motion and interactions of fluorescent molecules in live cells, probing protein-DNA interactions at the single-molecule level, developing sub-diffraction-limited optical microscopies, and/or adapting time-resolved spectroscopies to investigate spatially heterogeneous samples. The postdoctoral associate will be responsible for designing and implementing both optical and biological experiments, interpreting results, co-authoring manuscripts and research grants, and training/supervision of students.
Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline prior to the start date of the appointment. Research experience in optics or laser-based spectroscopy is required, and a working knowledge of molecular or cellular biological techniques is strongly preferred. Additional experience in electronics, computer programming, photovoltaic devices or nanoscale materials will be considered. Candidates must possess strong analytical skills and be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
Contact: Applicants should send a CV and description of academic qualifications to Professor Christopher Fecko (fecko@unc.edu). The position will remain open until filled.
