DUTIES: Supervise and independently perform studies to advance the goals of the principal investigator’s research projects. Performs experiments, analyze data and compile results and monitor quality control processes to ensure integrity of research. NIH funded research projects that study: 1) Molecular basis for the immunogenicity of Adenovirus ; 2) Role of DNA tumor viruses in lymphoproliferative disorders in patients with Primary Immumoficiencies, DNA tumor viruses. Human studies and mouse models will be used. Develop and perform laboratory research procedures in immunology, molecular biology, host immune response to oncogenic, DNA tumor viruses, and investigation in the lab. Participate in meetings with the Principal Investigator and research staff to evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, and evaluate lab procedures. Develop and apply standard quality control procedures to assure the quality of test results. Demonstrate procedures and provide individual instruction for lab staff, students/residents participating in the research to improve their research skills. Provide daily work direction to lab staff as needed. Create/maintain accurate, timely records for PI with information to evaluate the direction of research, and may make specific recommendations as requested. Operate, calibrate, and perform or supervise routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research. Retrieve information from library, computerized databases, and various published sources. Prepare manuscripts and presentations; present work at national and international conferences.
REQUIREMENTS: PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attentiveness to detail required. Knowledge of scientific approach and methodologies. Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol. Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise. Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures. Ability to design, organize, and coordinates scientific research projects. Strong working knowledge of molecular biology and immunology required. Experience in routine immunologolical assays (e.g. flow cytometry, cell sorting, T cell and NK cell functional assays, immunohistochemistry), cell culture, gene and cell cloning, real time PCR, western analysis, and rodent husbandry strongly desired.
