The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is a world leader in genomic research, with an expanding scientific programme dedicated to understanding gene function in health & disease.
We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to analyse the genomes of parasitic worms. The successful candidate will use comparative genomics at the species and genus levels to identify either conserved features or genes that account for differences in helminth biology. The role will also involve analysing patterns of gene expression in the context of each helminth’s biology and manually refining gene structures and annotation for key genes identified by comparative and expression analysis. You will work in close collaboration with bioinformaticians in the team to develop tools and analyses.
Essential Skills
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in biological sciences and have good communication skills, excellent problem solving and organisational skills, and a good eye for detail. Experience in Genome analysis is essential.
Ideal Skills
Previous experience in bioinformatics is desirable but not essential. Candidates with biological research experience involving helminths are strongly encouraged to apply.
Other information
The Parasite Genomics group sequences and analyses the genomes of Parasites. In particular, we have a major programme to produce genome sequences from parasitic worms.
