The Division of Dermatogenetics at the Cologne Center for Genomics, University of Cologne, is interested in the molecular basis and biological mechanisms of genetic skin diseases. We have openings for highly motivated PhD students and postdoc researchers in two different projects.

 

The first project is open for a postdoc researcher and a PhD student to characterize monogenic disorders of cornification. The work comprises molecular genetic analyses including linkage and mutation studies, characterization of human and animal tissues, and especially the development of various disease models with primary cells, which will be used for studies of disease mechanisms and therapy approaches.

 

Another position for a PhD student or a postdoc researcher is available for a project to study the genetics of alopecia areata based on human samples and an animal model. The work focusses on analysing the genetic basis of the disease with linkage and association studies and characterizing genes of interest with a spectrum of molecular biology methods.

 

Requirements

 

Candidates should have a strong interest in basic research. A deep knowledge of human molecular genetics is required. Candidates should have experience in methods of molecular biology and cell culture and be prepared to establish new methods in the lab. For the first project, experience in working with primary cells is necessary, preferably fibroblasts and keratinocytes. For the second project, experience is desirable in genetic mapping and identifying disease genes.

 

We offer work in a dedicated research team, state-of-the-art equipment and competitive projects. The positions are available immediately and initially limited until end 2010.
