The Department of Pharmacology the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Pharmacy seeks outstanding candidates for multiple positions as postdoctoral fellows and/or Research Assistant Professor. The successful candidates will be expected to work closely with Dr. Anil Kumar in an ongoing research program focused on the neuropathogenesis of HIV-1 with particular emphasis on the effects of drug abuse on neuroAIDS. The research program utilizes both cell culture models and the SHIV-SIV/macaque model of AIDS to study the combined effects of drugs of abuse on HIV-1 infection in terms of virology, immunology and neurology.
Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in a relevant area of biomedical research, a publication record of original research in peer-reviewed journals, and the potential to develop an independent, extramurally funded research program. Candidates for the position of Research Assistant Professor are expected to have at least 3 years of prior postdoctoral experience. Research experience in virology, immunology, molecular biology or pharmacology is preferred. Candidates with research experience in neurology, particularly with reference to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease, are also encouraged to apply
