The School of Mathematics invites applications for an EPSRC-funded three-year postdoctoral research position with the start date on 1st February 2010 (or a later date to be agreed). You should have a background in one of the following (or related) fields: dynamical systems, number theory, ergodic theory, algebraic groups, Lie groups, Diophantine approximation, arithmetic geometry. You should possess a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics or expect to receive one prior to July 2010. You will be expected to conduct research related to the ESRC project “Dynamics of large group actions, Rigidity, and Diophantine geometry” as well as independent research and participate in seminars, workshops and conferences. This position has no teaching duties. You will be appointed to the Research Assistant scale with annual salary £29,704-£32,458, depending on qualifications and experience, and with annual travel allowance of £2,000. The appointment is fixed term for three years and subject to the University’s standard probationary procedures. Interviews will be held between 1-20 December 2009.
