A POSTDOCTORAL POSITION is available from January of 2010 in Dr. Lei Li’s laboratory in the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. The major focus of the laboratory is to study the formation of a special DNA UV damage (a thymine dimmer named spore photoproduct) and reveal the mechanistic details of its repair process mediated by an iron-sulfur enzyme named spore photoproduct lyase. The research adopts a multi-disciplinary approach, using techniques ranging from inorganic chemistry (cluster synthesis in protein and peptide, anaerobic chamber and schlenk line techniques), organic synthesis (substrates synthesis and incorporation into DNA), bioorganic photochemistry, enzyme kinetics, to standard biochemistry and molecular biology techniques (protein expression, RT-PCR et.al)
Applicants should have a PhD degree in organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry or biochemistry and a strong interest in chemical biology. High motivation to pick up new knowledge and expertise in either synthetic chemistry or protein biochemistry/enzymology are essential. Please send a brief description (1-2 pages) of past research, CV and the contact information of 3 references to Lei Li at lilei@iupui.edu.
