Project Description:

Laser myopic correction by Lasik has been commonly used in eye surgeries.  Considerable research has been carried out and encouraging progress made in recent years.  This covers properties of the cornea and behaviour of tissue in different parts of the eye, topography and material behaviour of individual patient’s eyes, prediction using finite element (FE) analysis to estimate the corneal shape change and the change in refractive power.

Further effort is still required to advance the research to aid the decision making for Lasik surgeries.  This project aims to develop an intelligent planning tool for the refractive surgeries with predictive functions.  Novel research will be conducted on numerical modelling of the topography and material behaviour of individual patient’s eyes to simulate refractive surgery procedures, and advanced techniques for determining optimum surgical procedure parameters.  The project will also develop a comprehensive database for fundamental information and knowledge representation, and a dedicated graphical user interface. An enthusiastic graduate from computer science, physical sciences, or a closely related subject is sought.
